National Engineers Week

Now taking center stage – hotel engineers! It’s National Engineers Week and we are shining a spotlight on a few of our indispensable associates. Our engineers play a pivotal role in hospitality, finely tuned, ensuring guest satisfaction and operational efficiency, day in and day out.

Our engineering teams work with all associates throughout the property to create the best experiences for our guests and ensure the owner’s assets are cared for maintained properly. Whether it be through creating a pristine arrival for guests, championing associate safe & sound programs, fixing a down AC unit or cleaning the pool, engineers are integral to every aspect of the hotel.

Twenty Four Seven Hotels’ Corporate Director of Engineering, Timothy Laughton says “hotel engineers are really good at balancing the art of hospitality and the technical expertise required to keep a hotel running. They are the rock stars of our hotels.”

In celebration and in gratitude, we are proud to recognize a few of our engineering bandmates. Meet them below:

Arturo Franco, Maintenance Leader at Hampton Inn & Suites Buena Park

What do you love about engineering?

I like to help people and take great pride in keeping a “looking good” hotel for guests to stay.

Can you share what inspired you to start in engineering?

I started working in apartment buildings and then joined hotels because of the people – I like providing customer service and making a difference in the guest experience.

What do you love about engineering?

The good feeling when you complete a task or solve a problem.

Can you share what inspired you to start in engineering?

I was given a new opportunity to work in maintenance and love the opportunity to continually learn something new.

Michael Pearson, Chief Engineer at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Boise West/Eagle

What do you love about engineering?

I love being able to interact with guests from all over the world, solve problems and every day is different!

How does engineering make a difference at your hotel?

It’s really important for guests to have a positive first impression when they drive up to the hotel, enter the lobby, and walk into their room. Something as simple as a light bulb can affect a guest’s experience.

I know that Engineering is often in the background and not always noticed until something goes wrong. I’m ok with that because it means we’re keeping ahead of things!

Can you share what inspired you to start in engineering?

Engineering was not always my intended career path, I have degrees in management, technical communications, and 14-years in the high-tech industry. But I’ve always been a DIYer, so when I took my first job in hotel engineering eight years ago I knew it was a good fit. This position allows me to draw upon my skills, my education, and my work experience.

How does engineering make a difference at your hotel?

Engineering is dynamic, we are everywhere!  We keep an older property looking new.

Can you share what inspired you to start in engineering?

My Dad could fix anything and everything, he inspired me to do the same.

Saul Ceballos, Maintenance Engineer at Fairfield Inn & Suites Indio Coachella Valley

What do you love about engineering?

I love the daily challenges and I can never get bored because there is always something happening and something new to learn.

How does engineering make a difference at your hotel?

By caring for the guest even though we are behind-the-scenes.

Javier Roman, Chief Engineering at Hampton Inn & Suites Ontario

What do you love about engineering?

Being able to share my knowledge with other engineers and help them grow.

Can you share what inspired you to start in engineering?

I love the daily challenges. I knew every day would be different from being a plumber one minute to being an electrician the next.

To all of our Chief Engineers and maintenance associates, thank you for everything you all do to ensure guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. You are the backbone of our well-functioning hotels!
